Crafting can enhance the overall quality of your life in so many ways.  Did you know that crafting is extremely important in reducing stress, improving your mood, and even enhancing your mental agility?

Honestly, it does not matter how good you are at crafting, the importance is doing the activity.  Choose a favorite or mix it up with trying your hand at different crafts.

The Importance of Crafting

Emotional well-being and stress reduction are areas I have personally experienced in crafting.  Going through personal trauma, health issues, and the loss of family can be so demanding on our bodies and having this outlet saved me from prolonged anxiety and more.  I highly recommend it.

Here are just a few more ways crafting can help you:

  • Reduce stress, anxiety and enhance your mood – crafting typically removes the negativity that can cause mood stressors.
  • Self-esteem and self-expression – crafting gives you an outlet to express yourself and boost your feeling of self-worth.
  • Improve and keep your cognitive abilities in check – crafting can help with your mental responsiveness and help stop cognitive decline.
  • Create social connections – crafting can help you meet new people and foster social interactions.
  • Increase physical activity and health – depending on the craft you choose; it could provide you some added health benefits with fine motor skills and dexterity.
  • Learn new crafting skills – you can experiment with so many crafts that will give you a world of new skills to tap into.
  • Creating cultural memories – many cultures have crafting histories that become forgotten unless we keep them alive.

Most do not realize the importance of crafting.  What once was thought of as an “old woman’s past time” has become increasingly more popular today for good reason.  If you have never done any crafting, I urge you to try it today.  See what you have been missing and how much better you feel after creating a work of art.
