There are so many handmade crafts today that use handmade resin to create beautiful and unique works of art. With so many applications available, the imagination really is in control in how it can be used to create resin art.
Creating Art with Resin
Many stayed clear of using resin for years, thinking that it was a non-safe substance, but today there are many options available for non-toxic epoxy resin, allowing the creator and artist to create handcrafted jewelry, sculptures, home décor, and so much more. Here are just a few specifics of handmade resin you should know:
- Epoxy resin is very versatile and can be used in a variety of projects. From creating counter tops to a pair of earrings, the art of using epoxy is becoming a widely used and known medium for artists and creators.
- To use hand made resin, there are two parts that need to be mixed together – the resin and the hardener. Mixing the two is an art form all on its own – too fast and you will have too many bubbles, too slow and it will not mix properly and you could have soft spots in your resin art.
- There are multiple pigment options to add to resin to give it the beautiful colors you see in the finished products. I personally like to use mica powder because it is vibrant, but I recommend experimenting with different color mediums to find the one you like best and will give you the result you are looking for.
- There are lots of techniques with creating resin art – pouring to create a hard cover (such as over a countertop or a painting), molding to create home décor items or jewelry, and casting is used for deep or solid objects. All distinctive ways using different skill sets.
